Clinical Experiences on Geopen in Surgical Field

Abstract
|
|
|
Clinical response to Geopen (disodium carbenicillin), a semisynthetic penicillin derived from benzylpenicillin, was studied in 32 patients, suffered from generalized peritonitis, wound infection, infected burn, septicemia and other infections.
This antibiotic was administered intravenously or intramuscularly in dose of 2-14 gm. /day according to the age, causative organism and renal function.
The effect was excellent in 19 patients and good in 9 patients but no response was obtained in 4 patients.
No noticeable side-effect or toxicity was encountered throughout the course of administration except pain on injection site in a few patients.
